Our Last Call With Carson Daly And Julie Bowen
by Ginnie P. and Rose D.

On January 21st, 2002, three "Ed" fans - Ginnie, Rose, and Julie, met at 30 Rockefeller Centre for a taping of "Last Call With Carson Daly". Scheduled guest, none other than Julie Bowen. (For brevity, she'll be known as JB for the remainder of the article.)

Despite getting there very, very early , and being only second in line, a large group of 'VIPs' were let in ahead of us. Needless to say, we weren't happy. Since it seemed as if most of the audience didn't know who JB is, it can be assumed they were there for Carson or India Arie, the other guest. When asked , "who is she?", we upheld our 'Sworn Duty To Spread The Gospel That Is "Ed"'.

Despite the studio being small, we ended up with seats behind a camera and crew, so we had to watch the 'interview' on a monitor. During breaks, JB stayed on stage chatting with crew members, but not interacting with the audience. Ginnie had her "Ed" gear on, hoping she'd notice it and maybe come over. Being stuck behind the camera and crew, there was no chance. At one point, we (Rose) asked a crew member if it was possible to say 'hi' to her. He said he would check. Unfortunately the show ended before he came back.

Many topics were discussed and though no one really knew who she was, you could tell the audience enjoyed the interview. Some items discussed were the birds and the bees, sports, and her least favorite words, which are 'moist' and 'panties', especially when put together.

Carson called her new movie "Joe Nobody"(instead of Somebody), since nobody went to see it and the box office results were poor.

Her part on "Ed" was brought up. Carson asked about the $10 bets and gave JB a bet of his own asking her to get up and dance. She did and in the process made some guy's day by dragging him up on stage with her to dance. He also asked about her character gravitating towards older men. She defended John Slattery ('Dennis Martino') saying he's not as old as he appears, just prematurely gray. However, it seems JB herself is unattached and said she prefers younger men, joking that 18 year old boys are her favorites.

They showed a scene from "Ed". We wished they had shown one between Ed and Carol instead of the one where Dennis shows up at her front door (Ginnie had her head down, making faces. Rose was mouthing "Don't do it Carol!"), then those in the audience who haven't yet watched "Ed" would learn what the show is really all about. Of course then Carson wouldn't have been able to grill her on the 'old man' thing.

There was a lot of joking and JB appeared very relaxed and happy to be there. We liked the topic of discussion , though typical ones about childhood, likes and dislikes, were not asked or answered in the typical polite Talk Show fashion. When introduced, JB said that she's not funny, but we disagree. She's very funny, in a bawdy sort of way. She ain't no Miss Vessey, that's for sure!

Overall, it was a wonderful experience!
