                                              A Trip To 'Stuckeyville' (8/22/02)
                                                      (by 'M')

Several of us "Ed" fans recently made a pilgrimage to Northvale, NJ to meet, have dinner, and to see if there were any exciting doings in the general vicinity of Stuckey Bowl now that filming has resumed for the third season. A kindly Stuckeyvillian who lives in lovely northern New Jersey (near "Carol Vessey's house") posted that filming happened to be scheduled for his neighborhood that day. Sure enough, the big white trailers instantly recognizable as film-crew-related were seen in the vicinity. Spotted from a respectful distance was fearless leader and creator of all that is good in Stuckeyville, Rob Burnett, as well as Timothy Busfield, executive producer, sometime director, and portrayer of Ed's ne'er-do-well brother Lloyd. The day's highlight was a glimpse of Josh Randall and Tom Cavanagh emerging from a van for the location shoot. Tom, hearing his name shouted by the "Edheads" in question, turned and waved, then hurried along, as it was probably just the beginning of a very long day and night of work (and who were these nuts, anyway?). It was a brief encounter, but our day was made. The van driver accepted a card for Josh Randall (offering support through his troubles and electronically signed by many concerned Stuckeyvillians), so we hope it gets to him.

Because filming was on location that day, Stuckey Bowl was quiet. However, a crew member volunteered a few brief tidbits of information about the new season of "Ed". (See spoilers below, if interested).

As darkness fell in "Carol's neighborhood", klieg lights blazed into the night, lighting up a barn-red house (playing the role of Carol's father's house) like daylight . Although it was exciting to know that an episode of "Ed" was in the making, there wasn't much for us tourists to see, so we returned to our real lives, all looking forward to a successful third season of our favorite show.

Episode #1 (of season 3) was filmed first, then #3. Eps 2 and 4 were filmed concurrently the following week and the 5th ep was being filmed while we were there, the week of 8/22.

Carol and Dennis make plans to marry.

John Slattery returns for "at least" one episode.

Mike Starr, who plays Kenny, will leave the show.

SNL regulars Horatio Sanz and Chris Parnell make a guest appearance.

One of Rob Burnett's daughters plays young Carol in an old home movie we'll see.

Ep 5 focuses on Carol's father (Dan Lauria, Kevin's dad from "Wonder Years"), who is dying. Apparently Carol's stepmother visits to give her the news.

Warren is somehow still in high school and an episode has him protesting the SATs (he handcuffs himself-naked, or nearly so-to a classroom radiator).
